More on Superdrag and John Davis...
The release of
Superdrag’s first EP, 1995's
The Fabulous 8-Track Sounds of Superdrag on Darla Records set off a major label bidding war that ended up with the band on Elektra Records. At Elektra, the band released
Regretfully Yours in the summer of 1996, with their first single, "Sucked Out," becoming a major radio hit on both alternative and crossover stations in addition to becoming an MTV "Buzz Clip." The follow-up,
Head Trip In Every Key, was a gorgeously orchestrated album that showcased the band’s mastery of beautiful pop music. The band parted ways with Elektra and later, after parting ways with Pappas and Fisher and adding bassist Sam Powers and later guitarist Mic Harrison of the V-Roys, released
In the Valley of Dying Stars and
Last Call for Vitriol on New York-based Arena Rock Recording Company. Powers left in May 2003, and the band went on indefinite hiatus with Davis releasing a solo disc in 2005.
More on Forget Cassettes...
Led by the expressive vocalist/songwriter/guitarist Beth Cameron, Nashville-based
Forget Cassettes specialize in alternative rock/indie rock that is angst-ridden and emotionally intense yet highly melodic. Despite having a Nashville address,
Forget Cassettes have nothing whatsoever to do with country music, Americana, or roots rock; their material is alternative rock all the way. Formed in May 2002, when Cameron joined forces with drummer Doni Schroeder, the band’s debut album,
Instruments of Action, was released by the independent, Nashville-based Theory 8 label in 2003.
Salt,
Forget Cassettes' second album, was released by Theory 8 in 2006. In 2007,
Forget Cassettes landed a European distribution deal with London-based One Little Indian Records/Tangled Up Recordings, home of artists such as Bjork, The Twilight Singers and The Pernice Brothers.
